The Tamarack Lodge

Categories: Commercial Building

Address: Spring Creek Drive

Year: Canmore

Date Completed: July 14, 2022

The Tamarack Lodge is one of the more recent Spring Creek luxury buildings and is the centrepiece of the community’s lively new district, “THE BEAT”. These Canmore vacation rentals offer luxurious accommodation and is only minutes away from Canmore’s downtown area.
Inspired by nature and the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the Tamarack Lodge fuses modern design with rustic accents. The Rundle stone base and columns with the modern, horizontal wood paneling compliments Canmore’s mountains, while its impressive courtyard and pond ground it in the natural world.
The masonry is non-structural but was incorporated as a nod to the many local contextual buildings that incorporate local stone. A consistent application of stone masonry to the lower level of this 4 storey building communicates an idea of a solid stone base – which is not uncommon in many varieties of Alpine architecture.

Full bed guillotined Rundle stone pieces were individually pitched by hand creating a high quality and traditional mountain look along with a dry pack installation. Sourcing a local stone, no maintenance and offering something to remember were also key factors which played a role in selecting the stone.
