The Londonderry Mixed-Market Housing project is a testament to exceptional design, craftsmanship, and the integration of masonry cladding. Comprising 240 market-rate, affordable, and social rental housing units, the development showcases the potential of masonry in constructing welcoming, inclusive, and enduring housing.

The design incorporates two distinct types of masonry cladding. A terracotta brick defines the townhome podium, while a dark grey Ironspot brick characterizes the upper apartment units. The deliberate use of masonry elements adds depth and texture to the exterior, creating a harmonious blend of materials that elevate the architecture.

Technical excellence in masonry detailing is a defining feature of this project. Detailing around balconies and windows aligns with brick coursing, allowing the brick to run seamlessly past these architectural elements. This attention to detail lends gravitas to the design, enhancing the visual appeal and providing quality housing for some of our most vulnerable populations.

The project successfully tackled the challenge of densifying an existing social housing site, placing a premium on community integration. Shared outdoor spaces, a daycare centre, and flexible community rooms exemplify a commitment to fostering social interaction and outreach. The Londonderry Mixed-Market Housing carefully balances aesthetics, technical expertise, and community-centric design, setting a new standard for affordable housing.
