In June 2015, BR2 Architecture was retained by Alberta Infrastructure to design and administer the delivery of the proposed new K-8 School (Fireside) in Cochrane, Alberta. The building was built with mainly concrete block masonry for the load-bearing gym walls and the walls in the hallways while the facade was constructed with charcoal and biege-colored block masonry. This school was designed to achieve a minimum standard of LEED® Silver Certification rating under the “LEED® Canada Reference Guide for Green Building, Design and Construction 2009”. The school opened in September 2017 and services approximately 800 students.
