Dentistry Pharmacy Building – U of A

Categories: Educational / Institutional, Restoration

Address: 8900-114 Street (U of A Campus)

Year: Edmonton

Date Completed: October 11, 2022

Built in 1922, the original Dentistry/Pharmacy Centre wasn’t designed to accommodate modern building infrastructure. This Restoration project involved demolition, salvage and cataloging stone features and brick. Salvaged features, as well as salvaged brick were to be used on the the second phase of the project and will also be used on future U of A projects as required. Phase two of this project involved re-pointing the existing masonry, various tyndall stone repairs and salvaging and re-installing granite in various locations to accommodate the addition of a new structure to the existing building. Both dutchman and unit replacements were completed with salvaged material from the initial phase. The final phase of this project was creating new granite plinths and retaining walls along with new brick pavers on both the east and south elevations.
