This contemporary residence is located adjacent a busy park which sits between the home and majestic mountain views. Here too we introduced a low lattice wall, this time using limestone, to protect the owners while still providing uninterrupted access to the view. The height of the wall is designed to take the pedestrian level view into the home away. The wall defines an outdoor patio and the geometry also helps mitigate view into the home. The interruptions in the wall add visual interest and are truly the result of a skilled mason.
Three distinct sizes of limestone in a modified Ashlar pattern create intrigue and compliment the horizontal emphasis of this design. The low lattice wall turns a corner and becomes the driveway retaining wall. The stone is used to define the front Entry at the north side of the of home and continues into the interior for aesthetic continuity.
The limestone masonry contrasts the metal louvered screens mounted on the low flanking limestone walls which bookend the home. The subtle soft colour of the natural limestone masonry compliments the generous overhangs and wood porch soffit. Low garden retaining walls, also clad in limestone, connect to the driveway on both sides.
