The Alberta Legislature photograph underwent a transformative journey through computer graphic design, emerging as a stunning 3D rendering in an embossed file format. This intricate digital design was skillfully translated into reality using a large 5-axis CNC machine, featuring a high-precision diamond cutting router. Loaded with the digital blueprint, the 5-axis CNC machine meticulously carved the design into three equally sized pieces of limestone arranged on its table. Over four consecutive days, the CNC machine worked within a controlled and enclosed environment. The outcome? A breathtaking art piece capturing the front elevation view of the Alberta Legislature Building, masterfully embossed into 50 mm thick limestone panels. These panels were then expertly placed between hand carved, Glenbow sandstone columns from the original 1907 construction. The 117-year-old Doric columns frame the engraved panels completing the artistic masterpiece. The interplay of light on the underside of the piece creates a mesmerizing illusion, prompting observers to ponder: does the embossed design protrude from the stone’s surface, or does it seamlessly blend in? This captivating dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue to the extraordinary work of art. The carved stone panels are a source of pride for the manufacturer, representing the innovative strides and technological advancements reshaping masonry in the present era.
