This historic 2-storey craftsman home was originally built in 1912 in the central Calgary community of Elbow Park. The house features a traditional Flemish bond which was then carried through to the new construction which includes the landscape retaining wall at the front and side perimeter of the property and the newly built garage located at the rear of the property where new bricks were used.
During the 2017 restoration care was taken to retain the original nature of the masonry and the character home in general. In some cases, unsympathetic renovations/additions were removed and brought back to the original form.
The original front porch had settled, common to many homes of this era, so the porch itself was deconstructed, scaffolding used to support the roof, and the porch rebuilt using the original bricks on proper foundations.
In other areas of the home the brick and sandstone required repointing and repair. Sandstone caps were replaced where necessary. At the rear of the home, where an addition was added, the original brick was removed and reused. The contractor even purchased approximately 200 used bricks to make up the short fall on the home.
