The restoration project of Sunalta School was to be completed during the two summer months when the school was closed. This was a very tight schedule for all the tasks that needed to be accomplished. Many parties involved were hoping that the project could be broken down and completed over two years’ worth of summers, a total of four months. However, due to the time constraints, the project had to be completed in just one summer break. Every trade involved, especially the Masonry Contractor, worked hard to ensure the project was completed on time and without any problems.
Restoration projects of any size can be very complex and time-consuming. Things may look alright on the surface, but one can never be sure what is lurking beneath until the walls are opened up. With the expertise of the consultation group, all the typical unknowns were addressed, and the project ran smoothly.
The masonry scope consisted of replacing stones, some of which had to be carved with a CNC machine and others by hand. The team also cored into stones to add reinforcement and patch them with what is known as Dutchman pucks to conceal the openings. There were also plenty of joint crack repairs throughout. All these elements were sewn together seamlessly, bringing a monumental restoration project to completion beautifully.
