Minto Era is a newly built multi-family development situated in the historic community of Bridgeland, just northeast of Calgary’s downtown core. The project has brought new life and vibrancy to the area and will likely be the first of many new developments to utilize the great location and character of the area.
One of two buildings on the development is a four-storey wood frame with 40 multi-family suites. Construction of the low-rise began with a full-height elevator shaft using a two-hour fire-rated 20cm concrete masonry block. The elevator shaft was critical to complete as it was the connection point for much of the engineered floor trusses which supported the building framing. To add to the complexity of the installation, all of this masonry work was completed in the coldest portions of the winter. It involved full-height engineered hoarding and access scaffold that accommodated the engineered temporary bracing of the masonry block elevator shaft.
The building’s exterior features prominent masonry brick that exudes crispness and cleanliness while maintaining subtlety and class. The masonry brick surrounds the entire building on the prominent ground floor level and features a beautifully contrasting dark grey and off-white layout. Masonry brick is further used to elongate the street facing north and south faces of the building, with a section of brick rising to the underside of level three.
