Georgian Revival House

Categories: Single Family Residential, Artistic Use of Masonry

Address: Anonymous – 206 Sol Park Drive

Year: Fort McMurray

Date Completed: August 4, 2020

This single-family residence was designed in the Georgian Revival Style. It features a full bed masonry exterior, including ledgestone, cut limestone, brick, slate roof, as well as landscape pavers. Stone walls are also featured within the interior of the house.

The project owners were extremely interested in the Georgian Revival style, and desired a house that would appear “period correct” in every way. Efforts were made by the design team and the mason to ensure that the application of a wide palette of masonry materials was combined in a manner that was accurate to the chosen style.

Exterior walls were constructed using two primary masonry materials: K2 Stone “Moose Mountain” Ledgestone, and General Shale “Waterton” Tumbled Modular Brick. These materials were applied with a variety of techniques, including a 15-degree angled string course in the stone, and both herringbone and lattice walls in the brick.

Windows were accented with Indiana cut limestone sills and headers, with hand carved keystones that feature the family crest. Limestone quoins are also features on the corner of the building. The home includes two functioning Rumford fireplaces that are constructed with masonry fireboxes. Their chimney pots were sourced from Superior Clay via Brock White.

As a final touch, historical stone pieces such as architrave panels, finials and pattress plates were sourced from the UK and France through Uniquities, which are over 200 years old.
