Industrial Health Lab (Historic Land Titles Building)
Categories: Restoration
Address: 10523-100 Avenue
Year: Edmonton
Date Completed: November 15, 2020
Originally constructed in 1893 as the Land Titles Building, it was then renamed the Victoria Armory in 1912 and served Edmonton regiments until 1949. This project required the stabilization of historic multi-wythe brick walls. Retrofit ties were installed as required to assist in the stabilization. The exterior had been coated numerous times with highly cementitious stucco which damaged 85% of the exposed brick surface. Great care was taken in stabilizing the structure with selective removal and replacement of the damaged brick units. It was essential to utilize mortar that matched the original mix design. Sandstone sills were repaired or replaced as required, along with the original stone sign reinstatement. A new addition included a modern wall brick veneer system.
